Mission Statement
It is my mission to ensure that each parent has the peace of mind that I will provide a safe, nurturing, stimulating and engaging environment while their children are in my care. This is best achieved through open communication and clearly defined policies. I am fully committed to the role of Registered Early Childhood Educator and believe that we are all responsible for making the world a safe and nurturing place for children, through action and advocacy.
I believe that children learn through play and benefit from a structured yet flexible schedule. Educational activities are based on the individual interests and needs of each child. It is through inquiry, emergent curriculum and play-based experiences that your child will learn a myriad of skills and life lessons that will endure throughout their lifetime. I take a hands-on approach and encourage children to get involved in all aspects of the day. Whether they are following recipe instructions while learning to create their own play-dough, patterning and sorting with gems and stones, investigating wonders sparked by collecting nature specimens or engaging in problem solving with their peers, children will be given opportunities to explore their environment and discover their potential. I view children as capable co-constructors of their learning and enjoy guiding them to learn where to look in order to discover the answers to their questions.
I believe that children are always to be treated in a respectful and caring way. I take a Restorative Approach to child guidance. All children are encouraged to treat others as they would like to be treated and guided through a process of problem solving, rather than punitive responses to social issues. I believe in providing tools and strategies that foster self-regulation and conflict resolution. I facilitate the development of emotional literacy and empathy. As a Roots of Empathy facilitator, I believe that a direct focus on social-emotional development has lifelong impact on reducing levels of aggression and raising social-emotional competence. Being certified by UBC in smartEducation Mindfulness, I encourage the use of strategies that promote mindful practice and growth mindset. I promote the development of self-regulation by utilizing a Zones of Regulation approach in the classroom which introduces children to a common language for the purpose of providing strategies to teach students to become more aware of, and independent in controlling their emotions and impulses, managing their sensory needs, and improving their ability to problem solve conflicts.
I believe that children benefit from an understanding of themselves and their role within the world around them. I foster this understanding through opportunities to explore voice and demonstrate personal preferences and valued opinions. I believe in cultivating a classroom democracy. I am passionate about providing children with ways to become stewards of the environment to impact their local communities and greater world, ultimately cultivating a larger sense of impact of action, interconnectedness and wonder.
It is my mission as a Registered Early Childhood Educator to provide outstanding care and education. Through professional development and the feedback of families, I am committed to the ongoing improvement of the service that I provide to children and families. As a dedicated lifelong learner, my professional development is ongoing and documented.
