On February 9 and 10, 2015 I was thrilled to be trained in the implementation of 'Voices...from the Land'.
Research shows that there is an ancient and intimate connection between language and landscape, a connection that is found in cultures around the world. Exploring the natural world becomes a way to explore the origin of language and celebrate its use in modern life. As participants work with natural materials…they use color, form, shape, light, shadow, and pattern to create ephemeral art and discover the simple miracles of everyday life. The Voices project invites participants to explore language and cultural diversity, biodiversity, and the fragile relationship between people, nature and the passage of time.
This workshop provided Educators with the skills, knowledge and tools to engage in a Voices project with students in grades K-12.
The Voices project provides students with the opportunity to:
• communicate, collaborate, and negotiate as a member of a team
• write AND perform poetry or prose, giving voice to their language, art and culture
• to explore the intimate connection between language and the land
• create art in an outdoor environment
• use digital technology to document, layout and publish their work as a full color, high quality book or poster
• share their work with participants from other cultures and landscapes
• discover the natural world around them
